The amazing craft reached an altitude of 10,000 feet before gently returning to earth. Click past the break to see why and  how they did it. The Ennis House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924. The house has 27,000 perforated and patterned decomposed granite blocks. The house consists of two buildings that are separated by a courtyard. You can see the house in a number of movies including Blade Runner.

He also designed one of my favorite places in LA, the Wayfarers Chapel. The Derby House was built for businessman James Derby, though due to a separation with his wife he would never live here. The textile blocks are supposed to help keep the interior bright.

You can tour the home (during non-covid times), go horseback riding, hiking, attend movie nights over the summer, and polo games. Will Rogers was a popular actor in the early days of Hollywood. In the 1920’s he bought land in Santa Monica and his 359 acres included some land that would later become part of Pacific Palisades.

This unusual house was designed for him by Arthur L. Haley in the Arts and Crafts style; it retains its original interiors and furnishings. One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important works, in a style he called "California Romantic," designed in 1917 and built between 1919 and 1923 for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. The complex includes the main house, garage, and one other surviving structure. The house is open for public tours and reservations are recommended. Broadway, this thirteen story building in the Broadway Theater District of Downtown L.A. Is a prime example of Art Deco architecture in LA, and particularly unique for the bright turquoise exterior.

How Pixar's Up House Could Really Fly

Many consider Neutra one of the most important twentieth-century architects and this house tour gives a chance to see his home. It sounds more like modern times than 1915, but Dr. Roy Lanterman was ahead of his time when he wanted to build a fireproof bungalow made of reinforced concrete. This International style residence predates the mid-century modern styles that followed it, but it feels like it could have been part of the case study movement of the late 1940s and 1950s. The house is a private neighborhood, and there's no parking at the house. This house's most outstanding feature is the lavish use of ceramic tile, produced by the famous Malibu Potteries. It's everywhere in the house, yet never seems too much.

Ahead of Lightyear, it’s time to celebrate them—and to decide who’s no. 1. A new video from the Corridor Crew YouTube channel (via Digg) explores just how many balloons it would actually take to perform such a miracle. If you want to see a replica of the house in Disney Pixar’s movie UP, then you have to travel to Herriman in Utah. Herriman is just a short drive south of Salt Lake City.

The garage was used as Doc Brown’s house in Back to the Future and the living room shown above was used in Zathura. I have visited the house for free on two different occasions. You can visit it for free on the Museums of the Arroyo Day or during the City of Pasadena’s ArtNight.

The house from Last Man Standing is in the Windsor Square neighborhood and while that is not DTLA I am going to group them together. It is semi-close to The Grove if you want to stop by on a visit over there. While a lot of filming does take place in Downtown Los Angeles the homes for characters are typically found in more residential neighborhoods. One of the main exceptions is the apartment from New Girl.

Built in 1959, the Stahl House is a modernist style home and considered to be an iconic representation of modern L.A. Home to the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located on a hill in Downtown L.A. If you would like to visit Dunder Mifflin check out this post. The address for the house from The Fosters is 2330 E.

Tourists from all over the world used to come here and take selfies. I have been in the area a lot in the last few months and I barely ever saw anyone even looking at the house. If you are not from the neighborhood, you probably don’t know the story behind the house and assume it’s just an old house sitting there to rot. The data is then used to create extremely high-resolution, three-dimensional maps of the coast that can detect details down to just a few centimeters. The Derby House was designed by Lloyd Wright in 1926.

The report did recognize that the DWP has “hardworking” and “smart” workers. And it offered several recommendations, including regular reviews of employees and managers and a stronger role for the ratepayer advocate. The report, completed last year, looked at “systematic failures and gaps” that allowed wrongdoing to be carried out at the utility. The document was never publicly released, but has been reviewed by The Times. Despite its oversized fame, it's a modest-sized house, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a 300-degree-plus view of the city of Los Angeles.

This house is within walking distance from Fox Studios where the show was filmed so that worked out well for them. The Happy Days House is located near Paramount Studios where the show was filmed. I visited Garry Marshall’s grave the day after I came to see this house so it felt like a very full-circle moment. Brandon and Brenda Walsh did not actually live in the zip code or Beverly Hills. The beautiful house looks just like it did on the show.

Designed by Pierre Koenig in 1959 from a concept developed by the house's owner Buck Stahl, it's also called Case Study House #22. Interior tours are given by request, for small groups. Reservations are also required for self-guided exterior tours.

The Doheny Mansion is on the Doheny campus of Mount St. Mary's College at 10 Chester Place, just south of downtown LA. It's in the South Adams area, which is full of more beautiful, classic mansions. The Bubble House is the newest party trend that creates a unique experience for any celebration.

Named by Russell, this extremely rare, 13-foot-tall flightless bird is hidden from the world in her remote Paradise Falls habitat. With brilliant iridescent feathers and a long, flexible neck, Kevin is exceptionally fast and nimble despite her size. In fact, the massive bird often gets into some very curious and seemingly impossible positions. As soon as they meet, Ellie is pushing Carl to match her level of boldness. After he accidentally lets go of his blue balloon—with the name of Muntz’s airship, “The Spirit of Adventure,” scribbled on it—she takes his hand and guides him to the attic where it’s drifted.

In 1926 it was moved to its current location and became a private residence. I drove past the house on my way to an event and immediately turned around in order to check it out. You cannot go beyond the gate but it is truly spectacular to see.
